Pool Side by Donna Ehler also known as gramme by my online friends.

Barefoot Bay has three community pools but my favorite is what is called pool 2. I love the people who go there, I think we are a very friendly group. When I first started going to pool 2 I met a lady named Gloria. Well, Gloria came up to me right away and introduced herself and then to others that she knew. She made me feel so good with her warm welcome.

Gloria is no longer with us and I miss her very much as do many who knew her. Now, I try to do the same for new people who come to the pool so they feel part of the group and welcome.  If it's not too crowded I introduce myself to everyone who comes into the pool and then introduce them to the others that I know. We are like family and it has become a very important part of my life to swim at Pool 2.

Here are just a FEW shots of the people who are in and around the pool. There are many that I don't know because the winter months bring many visitors that I don't get to meet.

We are now on the SECOND publication of Pool Side. If you want to see the FIRST section please click on the ARCHIVES at the top of this page or the bottom of this page or the word ARCHIVE right here! Once you get to the first archive page you can see the others by clicking on the page number at the bottom of each page.

There are so many pictures that some people are starting to have a problem downloading all of them so the archive had to be done. I do NOT want to ever take down the pictures, if it ever comes to that they will be saved in some other way. I want them to always be available for viewing.

For anyone looking for "Remember Moira" click on the "ARCHIVE" and go to page 36.

Hi all,

Haven't posted in a few nights so figured I better get some photos tonight and post.

Tonight was beautiful as always. A little breezy when you got out of the 88 degree water but, none the less beautiful. Meet several new people tonight but didn't get pictures of all of them. Maybe next time I see them I can get some shots.

Barbara and Gordon were both there. Regulars and always nice to see. Then Walter was there as well. Meet Chuck tonight but didn't get his photo, hope I will see him again to get it. Very pleasant and I enjoyed our visit.  Meet Joe last night but didn't get his photo until tonight. Also, meet Paul one of the Pedal & Palms volunteers, really enjoyed chatting with him as well. Helen, such a nice lady and I enjoy every visit with her too. Marge, was there too and she is another one I have to get a photo of, very pleasant lady.

I enjoy meeting everyone so if I failed to mention your name it doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the visit. LOL (laughing out loud).

Bye for now...

Hi all,

I had another great evening at pool 2 tonight. Had a good visit with Barbara, Helen, Joyce and others. Water temperature is just great for my joints and of course the exercise is good for my diabeties. Two nights I got home and was crashing with LOW sugar reading but I just had a light snack and was fine.

I know many of you know Dick and Dee Dee but I don't know how many of you know that Dee Dee had been hospitalized for many months. Last night I had a shock, Dick arrived and Dee Dee wasn't with him so I asked where she was and he informed me she had passed away on Wednesday (4.25.07). I just couldn't believe my ears. Dick was with his daughter who had come down to be with him and of course, I gave him my condolences!

I have a saying that I use every time someone asks how I am and it is: "Everyday above the ground is a blessing!". I believe that with all my heart and hearing that news just made me so very grateful that I woke up this morning. Please say prayers for both Dick and his family and of course for Dee Dee. Here is a photo that is posted on the archive pool site of DIck & Dee Dee:

Hi all,

Well, you can see by the date below it has been almost a year to the day since I posted here! I went to the pool last night (4.27.09) and again tonight (4.28.07). I haven't been in so long I don't even remember when! I had a nice visit with Walter and his wife Sandy. I haven't see Sandy in so long and it was just wonderful visiting with them both. Also I meet a lady name Charlotte. We had a very pleasant visit and I was happy to see her return again tonight.

Tonight was almost like it was when I left, Barbara was there along with Gordon and then Kay came and it was almost like old times. Chatted with Joyce & Helen unfortunately,  both left before I could get their pictures but I'm sure I will see them again.

The water was nice and warm and just so relaxing. I felt so good when I came out both night. My joints just love that warm water.

The pool area looks GREAT...a new covered area with a picnic table, flowers all in bloom. (I will get a photo of the new covered picnic area).

Hi all,
Since it has been so long since I have posted on this area, I am putting this on TOP of everything. Once we get going again I will place the additions by page again.

Tonight I was at pool two, like old times! I did go Tuesday night for the first time since hurricane Jeanne hit us! I didn't have my camera and met a lady who has been to this site often. I will get her picture next time I see her. I am bring the camera every night now. Going every other night until I can get in condition again. When I go there my legs get stronger so I am very excited that I am going back. I don't want to over do right away but have already broke my own rule of going every other night! I went last night and again tonight!

Sure do miss everyone. Tuesday night I was ALL ALONE nobody came at all, I left at 6:30 pm. There were a couple of people in the pool when I arrived then left shortly after. Last night there were a handful that left right after I arrived. Tonight, was better, I meet a very nice couple from Upstate NY and just before I was leaving Peg and some of her friends arrived. All their pictures are posted below. I chatted with the Bob & Sharon until they had to leave. I did manage to get photos. It was really pleasant as you all know how much I like to talk (smile). Poor Margaret gets an ear full when no one is around. She always listens to my chatter. LOL. Carolyn is another one who listens well. (smile) Check out the photos below and don't forget to introduce yourself when you see these folks around the pool. We have to keep the motto for the "Friendly Pool" alive.

Tonight I meet Bob & Sharon from Glen Falls, NY. Just one of our snowbird couples, they are leaving on Tues. to go back home but will be back next Jan. They have been coming here for years. If you see them at the pool before they leave be sure to introduce yourself to them .They are very personable and a pleasure to talk to.

Now, many of you know Peg! Well Peg came tonight with her friends, Bob & Carol who are from Rhode Island! A long way from home but not for them. This couple take jaunts to Maine for breakfast! If you see them around stop and chat. Real nice couple.

Meet Flory! She is originally from MA. and has lived here in the "Bay" for 17 years. Pleasant to talk to, visit with her when you can.
(8-80-04)

Another great shot of Flory. In case you haven't heard of this name before it is short for Florence. Very pretty, I think. (8-08-04)

I usually take at least two shots to be sure I get one that comes out. Glad I took this extra one, I think it is the best. When you see Flory, see always has this smile. (8-08-04)

Say, Hi to Kathy!  She is originally from CT. and  is now a full time resident of the "Bay". Very friendly and is a pleasure to be around. Introduce yourself to Kathy next time you see her in the pool.

Just goes to show you, watch what you say about someone you never know who you are talking to! (smile)

As you can see the last date was just before the hurricanes hit us last year! I haven't been to the pool since so there is no update. With summer here and all the afternoon storms I'm not sure when I will get there.

We unfortunately, like many other here in the Bay, were badly damaged. We have had the bad experience, that many other have had, of getting taken by a LICENSED CONTRACTOR. BEWARE of Gulf & Southern Contractors, Inc out of Naples, FL. We were taken for $20,000 and are in the process of doing whatever we can to inform others and take actions against this company. So, as the new hurricane season has come upon us, we sit here still in the same mess as last year. I know we are not alone and many others are having problems worse than we are. Please feel free to email us your experiences and maybe we can give you some agency's to contact.

I look to meet many new comers to the Bay at the pool someday. Right now, this area will not have updates for awhile yet. Please visit the archives and see just what a wonderful group of people live & visit here in Barefoot Bay.

God Bless ya'll.

Well, I finally made it to the pool today!!! 6.28.05. Pool two's wishing Betty Jones Good Luck! Betty is on her way to Arizona to begin a new life. She will be missed. All there wished her well and the party was great. Margaret had a beautiful cake, there was food for all, drinks and some of the best friends gathered together to wish Betty well. Betty had a present for all of us as well. She sang a beautiful song and everyone was touched. Here are some of the pictures from today. Several cameras were going so if I get more photos I will post them.

God Bless ya'll.

Dorien

Photo's taken & submitted by Dorien. She was nice enough to bring her printing doc to the pool so that pictures could be printed immediately to give to Betty! It was wonderful, she could take a memory card from any digital camera and put it into her printing doc and print any of the photos on it. She printed many of the pictures I took with my camera and Betty was sure happy to get all those photos right away! Thanks Dorien.
