What is Red Hat Society all about?
“The Red Hat Society®, an international "disorganization" of women, came into being as the result of a happy accident. One woman gave another a gift of a red hat and a copy of a famous poem [Warning, by Jenny Joseph] that suggested that one can grow older without losing one's playful spirit!
“There is an inherent excitement in this view of life. Red Hatters refuse to passively sit back and allow life to slowly lose its fizz. We prop open the doors to our minds, determined to explore, learn, and find ways to infuse play into our lives.
“Within a few short years, more than one million women all over the world have rushed to join this playgroup. Wearing the highly symbolic red hats on our (graying) heads, we search out and embrace opportunities to enrich our lives. The Red Hat Society philosophy of life suggests that one is never too old to make new friends, try new things, or have adventures. One of our favorite catchphrases is, “We aren't done yet!”
“[The Red Hat Society is for] women like you, women who look into the future knowing that it can still test them, surprise them, and take them places they never expected to go.”
Exalted Queen Mother Sue Ellen Cooper
(Sue Ellen is the one who gave the original red hat to her friend, Linda Murphy.)

The Red Hats of Barefoot Bay is a group of 34 individual Red Hat chapters from the Bay area. Red Hat chapters are made up of ladies, (mostly) over 50, who are looking to make new friends and have lots of fun. You may have seen us in local restaurants wearing purple clothes and wild red hats. If you are one of those ladies who has handled all your family and business responsibilities responsibly, and are now ready to kick back and take some time for yourself, Red Hatting may be for you. Chapter lunches, teas, theater events, and area-wide Red Hat Hoots keep over-50 ladies active, excited, and slightly zany. If you are interesting in joining or starting a Red Hat chapter, please contact Sandra Kuckenbecker, BFB chapter coordinator, at 664-3865 for information about Red Hatting in Barefoot Bay.

For those of you who raved about them at the Hoot, Hot Cocoa will once again be our entertainment. We will also have a Christmas Caroling session led by some of our own ladies. Tickets will be $15, which is very reasonable for a great dinner and entertainment. There will be no vendors, just an elegant Red Hat evening.
